New Filtering Location in Russia - Moscow

If your Minecraft server is hosted in Russia and all traffic was being filtered through Germany until now - you know the pain. Every packet traveled from Moscow to Frankfurt and back, adding 30-40ms of extra ping for your players. For PvP servers that is a dealbreaker, for minigames it is noticeable, and overall nobody enjoys it.

We finally solved this. Meet the MineGuard filtering location in Moscow, Russia.

Why a filter node in Russia?

Minecraft DDoS protection for Russian servers has always been a tradeoff. Want quality filtering? Route your traffic to Europe. Want low ping for Russian players? Risk going without proper protection. Now you do not have to choose.

The Moscow node provides full Minecraft traffic filtering right in Russia. Same technology, same level of protection, but without the detour through half of Europe.

How does the routing work?

Everything is fully automatic:

  • CIS players (Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, etc.) - traffic goes through the Moscow filter
  • European players - traffic goes through the German filter in Frankfurt
  • Ukrainian players - always connect through Germany, no restrictions whatsoever
  • Rest of the world - through Germany

Routing happens at the DNS level - you do not need to configure anything manually. Enable the option and routing starts working immediately.

Real ping difference

For a player in Moscow connecting to a server also in Moscow:

RoutePing
Direct without filter~1-3ms
Through Moscow filter~3-5ms
Through Germany filter~35-45ms

The difference between 3ms and 40ms is very real. Especially on PvP servers where every tick counts.

Who should enable this?

Definitely enable it if:

  • Your backend server is located in Russia
  • Your main audience is from Russia and CIS countries
  • You run a PvP server where ping matters

Not necessary if:

  • Your server is in Germany or another European country - everything already routes through the nearest filter
  • Your audience is primarily European

But it can still help even with a European server:

  • If some of your Russian players experience connection issues due to ISP-level restrictions (TSPU/RKN blocking), the Moscow filter can help bypass those

What about Ukrainian players?

Let us be clear. Ukrainian players always connect through the German filter. This does not change when you enable Russia routing. No restrictions, no blocks - everything works exactly as before.

That is the whole point of geo-routing: every player gets connected to the optimal node automatically.

Pricing

The "Russia routing" option adds +30% to your current plan cost. We know it is not cheap, but traffic costs in Russia are significantly higher than in Europe and we are keeping the price as low as possible.

Available starting from the Starter plan. Not available on Free and Basic plans.

You can enable it in the "Plans" section of the MineGuard dashboard.

Technical details

The Moscow filter uses the same technology as our main Frankfurt node:

  • XDP/eBPF kernel-level packet filtering
  • Full L3/L4 DDoS protection
  • Minecraft protocol filtering (botnets, null-ping, exploit packets)
  • CAPTCHA verification during detected attacks
  • Automatic switching between protection modes

Summary

Minecraft DDoS protection with a Russia-based filter node is something our users have been asking for a long time. We took the time to do it right: same reliability as the main node, but with minimal latency for the CIS audience.

If your server is in Russia - enable it, you will feel the difference immediately. If your server is in Europe but you have Russian players with ISP restriction issues - it is also worth trying.
