Frequently asked questions about MineGuard setup and usage

DNS is taking too long to update

Usually 5–30 minutes, but if the old record had a large TTL (3600 or higher), it can take up to 24 hours. Lower the TTL on the old record before making changes, wait for it to expire, then update.

Do I need to hide my real IP?

Yes, absolutely. If an attacker finds your IP, they'll hit it directly, bypassing the protection entirely. Set up a firewall to only accept traffic from MineGuard and don't publish your IP anywhere.

Is Bedrock Edition supported?

Yes. Bedrock works via UDP tunnels. When creating a network, select the "Bedrock" type — MineGuard will assign you a port to connect to.

Players can't connect

Check in order:

  • DNS records are correct (CNAME points to your protected address from the panel)
  • Domain is verified (green checkmark in the panel)
  • Backend is added and active
  • Server firewall allows traffic from MineGuard
  • Network is active (not disabled)

Does it increase ping?

Minimally — usually +1–5 ms, since traffic passes through an extra hop. In practice, players don't notice the difference.

How do I temporarily disable protection?

Deactivate the network in the control panel. Or revert your DNS back to your server's direct IP (not recommended — when you re-enable it you'll have to wait for DNS to propagate again).

What happens if I exceed the traffic limit?

Every plan has a monthly traffic allowance. At 85% usage you'll get a warning via email and any configured channels (Telegram, Discord).

Once you hit 100%, you have 2 days to sort it out. Protection keeps working during this period, but you'll receive notifications with a countdown. If nothing is done within 2 days, all your networks get blocked and players won't be able to connect.

To unblock, purchase additional traffic or upgrade your plan. Networks are unblocked automatically after payment.

  • 85% — warning notification
  • 100% — grace period starts (2 days)
  • After 2 days — networks blocked
  • Buy more traffic — starting at ~$3 per 1 TB on the Billing page
